.MOBI DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
BRISBANE, QLD (25 October 2006) - Website owners can now register .mobi domain names through Multimedia Australia's website.
Released this month, the new .mobi domain names are intended to be used by websites that display content on mobile devices.
According to the GSM Association, more people world-wide have access to an Internet-ready mobile device (such as a mobile/cell phone) than an Internet-enabled PC. The number of people that will connect to the Internet using their phone is expected to reach 1.3 billion by 2008.
Creating a website aimed at this ever-growing audience can open new opportunities for business owners and website authors.
In addition to launching websites for mobile devices, many business and website owners are proactively registering .mobi domains for the purposes of protecting their business and website names from being registered by someone else.
There is no requirement to set up a website once a .mobi domain name has been registered. The domain names can therefore be registered even if a decision has not yet been made whether to launch a website under the name.
