SHAREWARE INDUSTRY IMPROVEMENTS THROUGH COMMUNITY FEEDBACK
BRISBANE, QLD (05 July 2004) - Software users are encouraged to have a say in the future of shareware software and the ever-growing shareware industry by participating in an ongoing study commencing this week.
The start of the study coincides with the launch of the SharewareIndustry.com site, through which the online community can submit feedback and complete surveys.
A spokesperson from Multimedia Australia, the company conducting the study, said the research will look at both the shareware industry's future, as well as documenting the industry today.
"Shareware is the most widely used distribution method of software on the Internet and its popularity is ever-increasing," he said.
"Our work in documenting the industry today and setting the path for the industry's future will help improve the industry and the products it supplies even more."
Preliminary results from the first stage of the study are expected to be released within the next few weeks, with a comprehensive report for 2004 to be released towards the end of the year.
The term "shareware" refers to the software distribution method whereby a free trial version of a product is distributed. Shareware software gives users the opportunity to try products before deciding whether to purchase the full version.
